Shown here is the proportion of aged persons living in their own child�s household. Reasons for living with one�s own child often include health status and low socio-economic status. Also, around major cities such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and in southern Florida where there are high immigrant populations, it is more likely to find aged persons living with their immediate family .
In the Great Plains region, there is a low percent of aged persons living in their child�s household. This may be a social difference because there is a higher tendency in this region for aged persons to live in group quarters. In the group quarters map
you can see an inverted distribution of aged persons living in group quarters across the U.S.
